With most meeting tools, your recordings live in their cloud, and canceling eventually means losing them. That is worth knowing before you have two years of client calls in there.
Jotted works the other way round. Every recording is written to your own computer first, on every plan, and that file is never deleted by Jotted under any circumstance. On the paid plan it is additionally backed up to the cloud, and the two copies are independent: deleting one never touches the other.
Not because anyone is being sinister. It is just how the products are built. The recording is made by their system, stored on their servers, and shown to you through their app. You have access rather than possession.
Which is fine until you stop paying, the free tier's storage window expires, the company changes its plans, or the company stops existing. Then the question of where your client calls actually are becomes urgent.
It also means every recording you have ever made is sitting on someone else's servers, which some clients care about a great deal.
Jotted records to your own disk as it goes, in small chunks. That has two consequences worth understanding.
First, it makes recording crash-safe. If the app or the machine dies at minute fifty-five of an hour-long call, you lose a few seconds rather than the whole thing, and the app offers to recover it next time you open it.
Second, the file is yours in the ordinary sense of the word. It is in a folder you can open, on a drive you own, and no subscription state changes that.
Free: your recordings and transcripts stay on your computer. Nothing you record is uploaded anywhere. The transcript is generated locally too. The trade-off is honest: if you delete the file, it is gone, because there is no other copy.
Pro: the recording is also uploaded to your cloud library after the call, automatically. You can open it from anywhere and share it with a link. The local file is still there and still yours.
The finished recordings on your computer are untouched. Every one of them, permanently. That does not depend on your subscription and it never will.
The cloud copies are deleted within 24 hours after the subscription ends, which is stated plainly in the cancellation flow and in a follow-up email. If a payment fails rather than you canceling, the account pauses and you get 15 days plus four reminder emails to fix it before anything is removed.
One detail in the interest of being accurate rather than making a promise that is not quite true: while a recording is being processed, Jotted writes several large temporary working files. Once the recording is finished and backed up, those working files are moved to your Recycle Bin so you get the disk space back, and they stay there until you empty it. Your finished recording is never one of them.
With Jotted, the finished recordings on your computer are never deleted, on any plan, ever. Cloud copies are removed within 24 hours after the subscription ends, and you are told this in the cancellation flow and by email.
On the free plan, no. Your recordings and transcripts stay on your computer. On Pro they are backed up to the cloud after the call as well as being kept locally, and the two copies are independent.
Yes. Deletion is explicit about which copy it removes: this computer, the cloud, or both. Local deletion always goes to the Recycle Bin so a mistake is recoverable.
The account pauses immediately and paid features stop, but your cloud data stays intact. You have 15 days and four reminder emails to update your card, after which the account and its cloud data are deleted.
It never deletes a finished recording. It does move the large temporary working files to your Recycle Bin after processing so you can reclaim the space, and you can turn that off with the Keep original files setting.
